Peter Pálffy was an Austrian painter and graphic designer. Following early encouragement of his talent for drawing, he began studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1921 and subsequently in Berlin. Pálffy lived in Paris from 1924 to 1933, a central place for his artistic development as well as his social circle, making friends with Francis Picabia and Louis Marcoussis. From 1933 he mainly worked from his family’s estates in Slovakia, where he created both paintings and monumental murals and was in close contact with the Hungarian and Slovakian avant-garde. In 1945, Pálffy fled to Austria, where he, following a brief stay in Upper Austria, settled in Kitzbühel in Tyrol. From the 1950s onwards he increasingly turned to abstract painting and printmaking and exhibited internationally as a member of the Art-Club. In 1962, he moved to Vienna where he lived and worked until his death in 1987.
