At just eight years old, Gertraud Reinberger-Brausewetter was accepted into the youth class of Professor Franz Cižek at the School of Applied Arts of the Austrian Museum of Art and Industry in Vienna. In 1914, at the age of 11, she received her first commission: a series of four tempera works for the church of St. Othmar in Mödling. Religion, theosophy and anthroposophy became central motifs, which she translated into her preferred medium, the woodcut. During her lifetime, her works were exhibited in Austria, Germany and Italy and today 85 of her woodcuts are kept by the Graphic Collection of the Albertina in Vienna.​
